Ostinatto, Buenos Aires



Looking for a hostel that is close to central Buenos Aires, but located in a more secure and peaceful area, then look no further than the Ostinatto Hostel. Located in the San Telmo district, this Buenos Aires hostel is only a short taxi ride from the airport and walking distance to central Buenos Aires.

The Hostel itself is an attractive atrium style building, with an old lift which helps avoid the 5 level stair case. First impressions and the reception is busy, in a disorganised chaotic fashion, but and the staff are warm and welcoming.

The rooms are clean, but rather dark and gloomy. The mattresses are a little worn and sagging in areas, but generally OK and comfortable once your lower back goes numb. Ostinatto will clean and make your bed every morning, which is a nice touch, and breakfast is included in the price.

Breakfast consists of traditional Argentinian food – small rolls, sweets, fruit and bucket loads of Dolce de Leche. Ostinatto also has excellent coffee available to guests throughout the day.

The bathrooms are in good order, although again very dark and gloomy, having weak green and red light bulbs doesn’t help the matter at night.

Ostinatto is expensive compared to the competition, its far from being a hotel but seems to be pricing itself toward that market. Be aware when booking a twin room – you get two bunk beds which cannot be pushed together, so for the money, your better off staying in the 4 bed dorm.

The Good:

  • Clean, beds made every morning.
  • Great looking building
  • Safe and Secure for guests and belongings.
  • Friendly, willing staff
  • Roof Terrace
  • Free Internet (computers are in need of servicing -why no wifi access Ostinatto?)

The not so Good:

  • Very noisy
  • Kitchen is tiny and under equipped for the number of guests
  • No outside alcohol allowed, and the Hostel bar is over priced.
  • Generally expensive
