Koala Bar, Noosa Heads

The Koala Bar Hostel is located between the Noosa Junction and Hastings Street, giving easy access to both parts of the town. A ten minute walk over the hill will see you at Noosa’s main beach and national park, so its a good base to explore the area. Koala’s have hostels in a number of other locations on the east coast of Australia, so free nights are sometimes offered when you book with one.

The hostel is cheap, and pretty rough around the edges. Having stayed in the dorms, the obvious use of bed bug spray is a little concerning, you can only imagine how big a problem they have. The level of cleanliness is below what you would normally expect for such a popular hostel.

The Hostel is noisy, as the main attraction for staying here is for the party atmosphere, with the bar next door serving cheap drinks and cheesy tunes until midnight for eager backpackers on the east coast binge drinking trail. After midnight and the bar shuts, its a good spot to watch traditional drunken brawls breakout, as crowds cram into free taxis heading to Hastings Street.

The Good:

  • Good Location
  • Price
  • Very social

The not so Good:

  • Bed bugs
  • Loud at night
  • Not very clean
