HI Hostel, Campo Grande

The location of this hostel is the main incentive to stay here, its across the street from the main bus terminal in Campo Grande.

Hostel HI in Campo Grande

Having booked a Pantanal Experience tour (see review here) with Ecolocial Expeditions, we received a free nights accommodation at this Campo Grande hostel, which is part of the Hostelling International network. The office for making bookings with Ecolocial Expeditions is located at the hostel, which makes the booking process very easy.

The rooms here are nothing to rave about, and are very basic. Overall the quality of this hostel isn’t fantastic, and everything seemed a little old and in need of a revamp. No air conditioning was available to us, but an industrial sized fan made up for things. The beds are comfy enough, but the sheets were not properly clean, so we slept on our sleeping bags to avoid contracting any disease.

Breakfast at Campo Grande HI Hostel is a welcomed surprise, buffet style with plenty of choice. We made the most of this rare treat of boiled eggs, warm crusty rolls and excellent coffee.

The Good:

  • Big breakfasts
  • Good value when booked with a tour
  • Location
  • Friendly staff

The not so Good:

  • Rooms are old and a bit dirty
  • Very basic
  • Not much security
  • Expected more for Hostelling International accommodation
