Flinders Station Backpackers, Melbourne

Flinders Station Backpackers is located just two minutes from Flinders Station in one of Melbourne’s busiest and vibrant streets.

On arrival, we crammed our backpacks into the small smelly lifts which take us up from street level to main reception. The communal area around the reception includes computers with internet access, a TV and some sofas. You get the feeling this hostel lacks space and trying to cram as much equipment in as possible, the internet area especially.

The dorms of this hostel are incredibly small compared to others in the area. As with many hostel dorms, the cleanliness depends on the people you are sharing with, and we were unlucky on this occasion. On the plus side, spacious lockers are available in the bedroom for guest use.

The kitchen and dining areas are too small for the volume of people, and if you want to cook dinner at 7 pm, it is likely to have to queue for pans. There is a walk in fridge with plenty of room for your food, just make sure you remember where you placed it; it gets very messy in there.

Free breakfast in the morning includes 2 slices of bread and cereals with coffee or tea, there is always enough for everyone.

In short, if you are looking for a cheap bed in the heart of Melbourne and don’t mind sharing a smelly shoebox room, then Flinders Station Backpackers is the place.
