1770 Backpackers, Agnes Waters

Despite the name, the hostel is located in Agnes Waters, a short drive arrive from 1770. Agnes Waters is a sleepy surf town on the east coast of Australia, and the perfect place to spend a long weekend.

On arrival at 1770 Backpackers, we where informed there was no record of our booking, and that the hostel was full. The helpful receptionist rang around other hostels in the area on our behalf, before telling us there was actually room at this hostel, but in the shed behind their house!

After a quick look around the shed, we accepted the offer as the nightly rate made it a real bargain, much less than the standard dorm prices. The shed was just that, a metal shed with tin roof. It was surprisingly well equipped, with a kitchen sink, basic toilet with shower and room for four other guests. It was comfortable, and for the price, we couldn’t complain.

The staff at the main hostel are friendly, and the kitchen is good enough for basic needs. There isn’t much of a social area, a few dirty old sofas around a wooden table is all that is on offer here.
